KURZWEIL

Kurzweil Music Systems was founded in 1982 with the vision of merging advanced technology with the beauty of acoustic instruments. The idea was sparked by a conversation between founder Ray Kurzweil and Stevie Wonder, who was the company’s first advisor. Stevie’s vision was to bridge the powerful control methods of computer music with the sound of traditional instruments, like the piano and guitar. After considering the concept, Ray realized it was feasible and set out to create groundbreaking digital instruments.

In 1983, Kurzweil showcased the prototype of the Kurzweil 250 at the NAMM show, which stunned audiences by realistically capturing the look and feel of a grand piano. By 1984, it was being shipped, becoming recognized as the first computerized instrument to faithfully replicate the grand piano sound. Over the next 25 years, Kurzweil developed a series of digital keyboards, leading the industry in both realism and the broad range of sounds and modifications possible in electronic music.

Kurzweil Music Systems has played a pivotal role in democratizing music technology, making advanced sound-shaping tools accessible to musicians at all levels. With technology evolving rapidly, Kurzweil continues to push the boundaries of what is possible, transforming the way music is created and performed.
